Jimson Olufuye, fncs, ficma, PhD
Jimson Olufuye, Chair, AfICTA has more than 20 years’ experience in the national and global ICT industry. He is a strategic thinker, analyst and a multi-tasking development specialist focusing on people, process and technology. He is passionate about the use of technology to transform lives, create wealth and accelerate development in Nigeria and generally in Africa.
He is the CEO of Kontemporary®, a leading ICT solution company based in Abuja, Nigeria. He has distinguished himself at the United Nations Commission for Science and Technology for Development Working Group (UN CSTD WG) on Improvements to the Internet Governance Forum where he advocated interventions to sustain rapid development engendered by ICT and the Internet in developing nations. He is currently a member of the UN CSTD WG on Enhanced Cooperation He is actively involved in policies for cybersecurity assurance, broadband as a right, intellectual property right, internet freedom and the management of critical internet resources. He is directly involved in energising and transforming the Nigerian Information Technology industry through diverse ICT policy framework advocacy.
Some of his efforts in collaboration with other stakeholders resulted in the establishment of National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Galaxy Backbone Plc and the new Ministry of Communication Technology. He was formerly the Vice-Chairman of the World Information Technology and Services Alliance (WITSA), overseeing the ICT interests and needs of the 48-nation sub-Saharan Africa through active representation in International fora such as the UN Internet Governance Forum (IGF), the World Electronics Forum (WEF) and WITSA. He is a member of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Business Action In Support of the Information Society (BASIS). He is a member of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) Business Constituency.
He is a graduate of Applied Mathematics and Statistics from the University of Lagos in 1988 where he was awarded the Vice-Chancellor’s Prize and the College/Faculty prize for the best all round performance. He was also awarded FULL COLOURS for outstanding performance in Chess. He obtained a Master of Technology degree in Computing from the Federal University of Technology, Minna in 2000. In 2007, he was awarded a Ph.D. Business Administration (Strategic Management) by the Irish University Business School, London.
He was the immediate past President of the Information Technology (Industry) Association of Nigeria (ITAN) and the Chairman of the National IT Public-Private Forum – a peer review and development forum of IT administrators and CEOs in the Public and the Private sectors in Nigeria. He was a founder and council member of the Nigeria Computer Society (NCS) and a Council member of the Computer Professionals’ (Registration Council) of Nigeria (CPN). He has authored many software on process control and automation. He also has three books to his credit including the acclaimed Information Technology Applications. Olufuye is a recipient of United Nations Youth Ambassador Award for Peace in 2007. He was inducted into the Fellowships of the Nigeria Computer Society (NCS) in 2003 and the Institute of Chartered Management Auditors in 2004. Olufuye has attended Advanced Leadership & Professional training courses in Sun-City, South Africa; Silicon Valley, Virginia, Las Vegas and Hawaii in USA & United Kingdom Telecom Academy. He has also attended professional conferences in London, Senegal, Malaysia, UAE, India, Germany, Canada, Switzerland, South Korea, China and in Nigeria.
He has served on many Federal Government of Nigeria Committees including Y2K (1999), IT Think Tank (1999), IT Policy (2000 & 2008/2009), IT Harmonization (2004); and on the board of many companies.
