Africa’s digital future is entering a critical phase, with growing emphasis on effective governance, appropriate regulation, and the practical deployment of sustainable and inclusive digital technologies.
The United Nations World Summit on the Information Society: 20-Year Review (WSIS+20), held on 16–17 December 2025, underscored the importance of strengthening internet governance, global digital policy, and international cooperation to promote inclusiveness, transparency, and accountability.
These priorities reflect discussions at the DTC 2026 conference, where attention focused on the role of science, informed decision-making, and emerging digital technologies in building resilient communities.
As digital transformation accelerates across the continent, the focus is shifting beyond experimentation and technology adoption towards effective implementation and deployment across markets, governments, and societies. This transition presents opportunities for African countries to strengthen digital infrastructure, improve public service delivery, encourage innovation, and expand access to digital opportunities.
However, achieving these objectives requires sound governance frameworks, forward-looking regulation, and policies that ensure technology benefits everyone, particularly underserved communities. Collaboration among governments, the private sector, civil society, academia, and technical communities will be essential to building a digital ecosystem that is secure, inclusive, and sustainable.
Against this backdrop, the call for abstracts, titled “The Next Frontier of Africa’s Digital Future: Governance, Regulation, and Deployment of Sustainable and Inclusive Digital Technologies,” seeks to advance conversations on the policies, strategies, and practical approaches that will shape Africa’s digital development.
The overarching goal is to encourage knowledge-sharing and informed dialogue on how African societies can move from digital ambition to meaningful implementation, ensuring that technological progress translates into inclusive growth, stronger institutions, and lasting social and economic development.
