AfICTA Chairman Speaks @ the AfIGF 2019 - Chad


Engr. Hossam Elgamal, the Chairman of AfICTA - Africa ICT Alliance speaks @ the high-level panel session of the 8th Meeting of the African Internet Governance Forum AfIGF which was hosted by the Chadian government @ N'Djamena from 10-12 September 2019.

 

This year edition of the forum focused on “Shared Responsibilities of Stakeholders for a Robust Ecosystem of Internet Governance” and was attended by over 300 participants from government, private sector, academia, research institutions, technical community, media and civil society organizations.

 

At the end of the high-level panel session discussion, the following recommendations were made by AfICTA Chairman:

1. There should be a transition from a telecommunications regulator to a regulator for society and the digital economy.

2. There should be the creation of a forum for digital technology industry development bodies in the countries of the continent to share challenges, development plans, experiences, and projects.

3. There should be a consideration for more representatives of different development sectors in the light of sustainable development plans 2030 in the Internet Governance Forum for further awareness and discussion of appropriate regulatory policies for digital transformation in each sector

4. Working a digital portal assembled in collaboration with Smart Africa and AfICTA to provide the necessary information on the stimulating environment, projects, strategies, policies, and points of contact for digital transformation in different African countries

 

The forum ended with award ceremony by the African Union, the UN Economic Commission for Africa and the Government of Chad recognizing the outstanding contribution of Makane Faye, Moctar Yedaly and Ridha Guellouz for their contributions to the Internet development in Africa.
