 AfICTA Elects its 3rd Chairman and other Officers at the 8th Annual Summit

It was another history-making Annual General Meeting on 25 November 2020 as AfICTA-Africa ICT Alliance in line with its constitution elected its 3rd Chairman, Mr. Thabo Mashegoane who is also the President of the IITPSA - Institute of IT Professionals of South Africa to succeed Engr. Hossam Elgamal from the Arab Nation of Egypt.

The results of the elections which were conducted electronically by the constituted “Election Committee” were presented to all the stakeholders and in line with its constitution as amended in 2020, the following board members and officers have emerged: Paul Rowney, Deputy Chair; Opeyemi Onifade, Treasurer; Dr. Waudo Siganga, Vice-Chair for East Africa; Ulandi Exner, Vice-Chair, Southern Africa; Engr. Assem Wahby, Vice-Chair, North Africa; Adetola Sogbesan, Vice-Chair, West Africa; and Eric Sindeu, Vice-Chair, Central Africa. AfICTA Board here.

In his outgoing speech delivered, the Immediate Past Chairman, Engr. Hossam Elgamal thanked his Vice-Chairman - Mr. Thabo Mashegoane (who thenceforth became the Chairman), the members of the Executive Committee, other board members, AfICTA Secretariat, and his predecessor - Dr. Jimson Olufuye for all the support throughout his tenure as the Chairman.

Engr. Hossam further highlighted some of the achievements during his tenure as 1. Increase in the membership base of AfICTA from 150 to over 300 registrants with about 10% as good-standing. 2. Increase in AfICTA newsletter subscribers from about 1,800 to over 5000 as a result of exceptional work done by the secretariat. 3. Facilitation of the trip of 6 members of AfICTA from different African region on an African Union project “Train the trainers” in Addis Ababa. 4. Organize two consecutive IGF workshops, Unlocking the Digital Potential of the Developing and Least Developed Countries (DLDC) in 2019 and its Part II in 2020. His full speech here.

In his acceptance speech, Mr. Thabo Mashegoane thanked the Immediate Past Chairman, Engr. Hossam Elgamal and the Past Chairman and Founder of AfICTA, Dr Jimson Olufuye for their exceptional service and leadership role to the alliance. He counts it as a great privilege for him to serve the alliance and assured that with the support of his colleagues on the board they will be able to keep the flag of the alliance flying.
