In the second decade of the 21st century, the role of Information technology & communication was on the rise to affect the lives of humans all over the earth. Africa due to the heritage of under-development was not responding to the ICT revolution. In 2012 EiTESAL communicated with a few other entities in Africa to start advocating the need for Africa to mobilize its resources to fill the technology gap.
While AfICTA - Africa ICT Alliance is celebrating a tenth-anniversary milestone, which is a big achievement, we shall thank Dr. Jimson Olufuye & Eng. Hossam Elgamal, who together paved the way for AfICTA to have a seat in the international organizations; ICC-BASIS (International Chamber of Commerce on Business Actions to Support the Information Society), IGF - Internet Governance Forum…etc.
This celebration is the outcome of the remarkable people who started thinking of regional change, and this anniversary sums up the values that AfICTA presents such as trust, credibility, and reliability. For the last ten years, AfICTA advocates for the African Private Sector and represents the ICT industry interests in the African Union. These efforts would continue in the upcoming years with more effort and persistence.
Now AfICTA will continue with what it has started in addition to playing a crucial role in integrating the industry players all over the continent to allow the free flow of information & IT products between the African countries. It is a celebration for all who have been a part of the AfICTA through all those years, and I am proud to be one of them and will do my best to support the organization's vision to fulfill the promise of the digital age for everyone in Africa.
