Dr. Jimson Olufuye presented the Pan - African Leadership Prize For Excellence

President of PAN-AFRICAN STUDENT MOVEMENT (PASM) Hon. Kobehi Kossa presents the medal and award of Leadership for Excellence to Dr Jimson Olufuye

Dr Jimson Olufuye CEO Kontemporay Konsulting Ltd. and Immediate Past Chairman AfICTA was presented with the Pan - African Leadership Prize For Excellence by the Pan African Student Movement (PASM) on the 17th February 2020. The award was a recognition award commending Dr Jimson on his work so far in the African ICT Space and his relentless effort at bringing light and the promise of the digital age to Africa. Amongst the 5-man delegate team from the Pan African Student who presented the award were: Hon. Kobehi Kossa, President of PASM; Ms Rita Okoro, Mr. Daniel Gozie, Njouku Obioma and Mr. Igwe Franklin Ikechukwu.

Mr Igwe commenced by recognizing and appreciating Dr. Jimson for his efforts at ensuring he contributes to the development of the African continent, specifically in the ICT and Internet ecosystem. Africans will be remiss in hoping that someone else will develop this continent and whatever short term efforts employed is only a hoax and an attempt at claiming the continent for its own interests.

The President of the Pan Africa Student Movement, Hon. Kobehi gave his speech for the event. It is said, easy to sit up and take notice. What is difficult is standing up and taking notice. Today we are celebrating the fact that someone stood up and took that action. Today we are celebrating enthusiasm, commitment and sheer hard work. Enthusiasm is often neglected as a force. Yet without it, there would be few achievements. Enthusiasm sets fire to the imagination. Today we are honouring those who asked these questions and committed themselves to find the answers. We are honouring those who worked late into the evening and early in the morning

I want to welcome every one of us to this very important epoch-making ceremony of conferring honour on a man of substance, intellectual juggernaut, a man with a magnificent experience. I am talking about the remarking, palatable, unbeatable, irremovable, incorruptible, delectable and reliable Dr. Jimson Olufuye - a patriotic Nigerian, Benevolent Personality and a True Federalism.

The PAN-AFRICAN STUDENT MOVEMENT (PASM) has constituted herself as an instrument of National and International integration even as we pay rapt attention and show keen interest in the process of development of our dear countries and Africa. Read More

Dr Jimson appreciated the team for the honour of presenting him with such prestigious award, he found it remarkable of them also for getting involved at a continental scale at this stage in their lives at the university, enunciating that attributes like these are the kind sought out for in our future leaders. Dr Jimson advised that although it is important to carry out our social responsibilities, they need to ensure that the main purpose for going to the University isn't lacking because this is what sustains both yourself and the Union.

Some of the major problems we face in the African society is as a result of corruption and lack of integrity/transparency amongst its people. It would merit the youth of this generation to inculcate the culture of sincerity and integrity as this would be the cornerstone for the change and development we seek in Africa, but it would be unreasonable to expect this change to happen overnight, after all, Rome wasn’t built in a day. Dr jimson explained some of the challenges he faced over the years building his repertoire in the ICT space, most notably the lack of representation of Africa in the global space as it was keen for him to do the heavy lifting to ensure that Africa is heard at global forums. He shared some of his experiences with the ideology behind giving and how it showed evident in the revitalisation of ITAN when he became president in 2007, so he enjoined everyone that it is pertinent to give because this is very important in the quest to achieve anything.

In an attempt to make his research into the Pan African Student Movement online, Dr Jimson noticed that the union lacks web presence and so he offered to provide them with a website under the .africa domain and also host the website for 3 years.

In conclusion, Dr Jimson emphasized that as they push forward with the Pan African Students movement, it is necessary that they develop a thick skin for criticism also in carrying out our social duties to the community and with their continual push for the development of the society, it is highly important that we find the balance between civic duties and our primary assignments because development of ourselves is also key to the collective development of our society and continent.

AfICTA @ the R40 2020 Edition Discussed Technology as the Perfect tool to Manage Climate Degradation.

AfICTA @ the R40 2020 Edition Discussed Technology as the Perfect Tool to Manage Climate Degradation.

The 2020 edition of the Resilient 40 “tagged responding to climate change in Africa” was held @ the UK Wilton Park in Ethiopia on 16th January and gained the participation of youths (aged between 18 and 35) who are African Union member state citizens, change-makers and engaged in climate change & resilience matters either personally or professionally.

Representation of AfICTA - Africa ICT Alliance at the important meeting was Mr. Waddah Fadul who was a part of the “Disaster Preparedness and Management” working group. He spoke extensively on how technology could be adopted and be a very convenient tool that governments, policymakers and disaster recovery planners can adopt to ensure climatic degradation is well managed and in the long-run halted.

Resilient 40 is an Africa-UK partnership to build climate resilience in Africa. They are a network of young climate leaders and social activists that provide a formal platform for actively guiding and directing the voice and work of young people on climate change across the continent of Africa through broader consultation and high-level decision making with key continental and global stakeholders. R40’s annual meeting brings youth leaders from diverse professional backgrounds to deliberate on strengthening climate resilience across different sectors in Africa.

The next generation of leaders, calling themselves the #Resilient40, built a platform to build momentum to tackle challenges and improve climate resilience across Africa. They discussed how they and their societies are already affected by the climate crisis and developed ideas for solutions to enhance resilience to face the threats ahead, sharing expertise across the continent.
